Advertisement MMS Awards Dinner attracts full house The large dining room at Jason's Restaurant was full on Wednesday evening, Sept. 28, as MMS honored individual physicians and recognized a community-wide project. MMS President Dr. Peter Bretan acted as emcee for the event with more than 70 doctors, spouses and guests in attendance. A special note of gratitude to our event sponsors: Healthy Marin Partnership, Marin Health & Human Services, MIEC, and Sutter Health Novato Community Hospital. The first award, for Outstanding Contribution to Marin Community Health went to Dr. David Witt, presented by Dr. Grant Colfax. Dr. Julia Haimowitz presented the Outstanding Contribution to Marin County Medicine award to Dr. Jeffrey Schneider, and Dr. Naveen Kumar presented the Outstanding Contribution to MMS award to Dr. Lori Selleck. Dr. Irina deFischer presented the first Article of the Year award to Dr. Gail Altschuler for her article "Healthy Weight, Healthy Pregnancy," which appeared in the spring/summer 2015 issue of Marin Medicine magazine. Dr. Matt Willis concluded the evening by presenting MMS's 2016 Recognition of Achievement award to RxSafe Marin. Watch for event photos in the upcoming fall/winter issue of Marin Medicine. Oct. 25: Operation Access Healthy Spirits volunteer celebration Join this festive event at Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The evening will include live music, craft beer and wine, a gourmet banquet, and an awards presentation celebrating medical volunteers and partners who received the national Make A Difference Day All-Star Award from USA Today. Oct. 25: Physician Aid-in-Dying forum In June, California became the fifth state to allow physicians to prescribe medication for terminally ill patients who wish to end their lives through provisions of the End of Life Option Act. SCMA's Physician Aid-in-Dying Task Force is hosting a meeting at Partnership HealthPlan in Santa Rosa on Oct. 25 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. to discuss requirements of the California End of Life Option Act. Attendees will also hear first-hand about the "Oregon Experience," a panel discussion, and wrap-up with an understanding of the resources needed for physicians and their patients. The $20 cost includes registration and dinner, sponsored by Partnership HealthPlan. Reservations are required; seating is limited to 50.
